What to Expect in a Newborn Photo Session
If you’re reading this post, you likely have a little bundle of joy on the way! CONGRATULATIONS! Here’s the thing: Planning for a newborn session begins LONG before your baby arrives! I wanted to write a special post to help you understand what to expect and how to plan for a newborn session with Suzanne Barnes Photography. Here’s everything you need to know!
Step One: Fill out an inquiry and questionnaire.
To let me know you’re interested in a newborn portrait session, you’ll fill out an inquiry form here. After I receive your inquiry, I’ll send you a questionnaire so I can learn a little about you and your baby.
Step Two: The Planning Session
I start planning for your newborn shoot way before your little one arrives because we can’t always tell exactly when they’ll be born. Sometimes it’s later or they could decide to arrive a little earlier. I also understand that you’ll need some time to rest after the birth of your baby, so this is taken into consideration when planning the shoot.
You’ll come to the studio, and we’ll look at backdrops and props and plan out what you’d like to use in the session. We’ll also schedule a tentative session date approximately 10 days after your due date. Of course, this date is not set in stone. Once your baby arrives, contact me a soon as possible so I can get a solid date on the calendar for you!
At the planning session, you’ll also have the opportunity to check out the custom artwork I offer. I believe in printing your portraits, and not leaving them to the mercy of digital technology. I have something for every budget!
Step 3: The Photo Shoot
You have a couple of options here… I typically shoot newborn sessions in my studio, but if you prefer an at-home session, that’s a possibility too. Just know that at home sessions are not posed newborn sessions, but more lifestyle photography in nature.
I like to schedule newborn sessions during the first two weeks following the birth as this gives me the chance to capture those unique facial expressions. Babies also tend to sleep more often during those first few weeks, which helps me get the best shots too.
If you’re unable to attend the shoot yourself due to a difficult birth, we can always schedule the shoot at home if you would prefer the shots to have a more lifestyle-type look and feel.
Step 4: Your Portrait Reveal
You’ll come back to the studio for a Reveal Party! I’ll have a special treat, and you’ll see the beautiful portraits we took of your sweet baby. You’ll also be able to help design and create any custom artwork at your Reveal, and we’ll finalize your print order.
Step 5: Artwork Delivery
This is the best day ever: I’ll gift wrap and hand deliver your beautiful custom artwork to your door!
I hope this post has helped you understand and start to plan your newborn session! Remember, planning for a newborn session begins long before your baby arrives. So if you’re pregnant, I’d love to have you and your baby in front of my camera. Click here to get started TODAY!
