May is Foster Care Awareness Month, and this one is personal.

Before I was an adoptive mom, I was a foster mom. And let me tell you—foster parents are superheroes. Not because they’re perfect, but because they say yes when it’s hard. They open their hearts knowing full well it might break.

This sweet little girl was placed with my friend months ago, and I had the honor of photographing her through different seasons of her foster journey. I watched her grow, change, and thrive in a home filled with patience, love, and safety.

And just a few weeks ago… she said goodbye to foster care. She said hello to her forever.

Foster care is not just about temporary homes—it’s about standing in the gap. It’s about giving a child a soft place to land in the middle of chaos. And while not every story ends with adoption, every story is changed by the love poured in along the way.

To all the foster families out there: I see you. You are doing the sacred work of healing.

And to the little ones navigating the in-between—you are so deeply loved.
